screening > Paolo Vive by Debora Scalzo

LOCANDINA PAOLO VIVE 169

On the occasion of the national Day of Remembrance and Commitment in Remembrance of Innocent Victims of the Mafia, the Consulate General of Italy & the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles organize a special screening of  Paolo Vive (Paolo Lives, 2024 153′) by Debora Scalzo, with a video introduction of the filmmmaker.

Through the voices of those who knew him and the echoes of a city forever changed, Paolo Vive paints a profound portrait of justice, sacrifice, and resilience. The documentary unfolds in two interwoven narratives: on one side, the tireless fight of Judge Paolo Borsellino—brought to life through the powerful performance of Bruno Torrisi—reveals his unwavering commitment to dismantling the mafia. On the other side, intimate testimonies from colleagues, friends, and citizens of Palermo offer a deeply personal reflection on the impact of his work and the void left by his tragic assassination in 1992. Through rare archival footage and previously unseen accounts, Paolo Vive not only commemorates Borsellino’s indelible legacy but also ignites a call to action for future generations. It is a testament to the enduring power of courage and integrity in the face of fear, ensuring that his fight for justice continues to inspire and guide the path forward.

In Italian with English subtitles.
