A special screening of the the silent movie Ma l’amor mio non muore! (Love Everlasting, dir. Mario Caserini. Italy, 1913, 77 min) with a live accompaniment and an original score by noted concert pianist and composer Michele Sganga.
Restored to its original glory by the Cineteca di Bologna, Ma l’amor mio non muore!, starring the iconic Lyda Borelli, is hailed as the first “diva” film. In this tale of espionage and love, Elsa Holbein, the daughter of a high-ranking officer in the Grand Duchy of Wallenstein, finds herself courted by the infamous spy Moise Sthar. After stealing secret documents, Sthar vanishes, leaving behind a trail of scandal. Devastated, Elsa’s father takes his own life, forcing her into exile. Homeless and wandering the streets, Elsa eventually begins a performing career. Under the pseudonym Diana Cadouleur, she rises to fame as a celebrated actress and singer on the Riviera.
