From Jupiter to Mars: Italy’s Contribution to Space Exploration

The Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF), invite you to celebrate the Italian National Space Day. The event commemorates the launch of Italy’s first satellite, San Marco 1 (15 December 1964), a milestone that established Italy as a key player on the international space stage.

The evening will feature a conversation highlighting Italy’s contributions to space exploration, focusing on recent missions to Europa and Mars. Panelists include Dr. Alessandro Rettura, Scientist and Systems Engineer at NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory, working on the Europa Clipper mission; Stefano Cappucci, Senior Thermal Systems Engineer at Relativity Space and former thermal systems lead for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter; and Francesco Grilli, Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, who oversees satellite communication and location technologies. The discussion will be moderated by Emmy-winning producer and journalist Jeremy Spiegel.

After the conversation, we invite you to stay for a holiday reception featuring a live jazz performance by the Luca Alemanno Trio, who will play festive classics as we exchange season’s greetings under the stars.
