screening > MONICA with director Andrea Pallaoro and actress Trace Lysette

A special screening of MONICA by Andrea Pallaoro presented in collaboration with OUTFEST, the world’s largest LGBTQ+ film and media organization, followed by a Q&A with film director Andrea Pallaoro and actress Trace Lysette, moderated by Gabi Grossman, Senior Programming Coordinator for OUTFEST.

MONICA is an intimate portrait of a transgender woman who returns home after a long absence to confront the wounds of her past. Reconnecting with her mother (Patricia Clarkson) and the rest of her family for the first time since leaving as a teenager, Monica (Trace Lysette) embarks on a path of healing and acceptance. The film delves into Monica’s internal world and state of mind, her pain and fears, her needs and desires, to explore the universal themes of abandonment and forgiveness.

MONICA is produced by Gina Resnick p.g.a., Christina Dow, Eleonora Granata Jenkinson p.g.a. and Andrea Pallaoro. Special thanks to IFC Films. This event is part of Fare Cinema 2023, an original program by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation promoting the Italian film industry in the world, and is also organized with the support of the Italian Cultural Institutes in San Francisco and Washington DC.
