The Etruscans: From the Heart of Ancient Italy introduces the remarkable culture that flourished in ancient Etruria, in the region between the Arno and Tiber Rivers, from the 9th to the 2nd century BC. The exhibition features important artworks lent by museums in Italy, complemented by additional loans from museums in Europe, the U.S., and Canada. Altogether approximately 180 objects, renowned for their unparalleled beauty and craftsmanship, display the Etruscans’ rich artistic legacy and offer fascinating insights into their society. The exhibition highlights the Etruscans’ highly skilled craft production and contacts with other cultures around the Mediterranean, their language and religious rituals, burial practices and luxurious grave goods, and aspects of daily life including banqueting and the lives of Etruscan women. A section is dedicated to exploring the Etruscans’ significant influence on ancient Roman society.
Organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, in collaboration with the San Antonio Museum of Art and with the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Houston and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles.
