site-specific installation > WE ARE LETTERS. THE ARCHITECTURE OF LANGUAGE

Marking the 22nd Giornata del Contemporaneo – Italian Contemporary Art Day, the Italian Cultural Institute, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, presents WE ARE LETTERS. The Archictecture of Language, a site-specific installation by Lorenzo Marini exploring alphabets, visual language and communication.

At the heart of Marini’s artistic research are his Creative Alphabets, where every letter becomes a narrative. The artist has created ten alphabets — more than 260 graphic symbols — which have become individual artworks on canvas, paper, steel and cashmere. Through his Type Art, letters are freed from their conventional function and rediscovered as autonomous visual forms, each with its own identity and expressive potential.

For We Are Letters, different alphabets come together in an immersive installation created for the patio of the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles. Letters, signs and visual languages coexist within the same space without losing their individual identities, suggesting a society in which differences are not boundaries but opportunities for connection.

The evening will feature a conversation with Lorenzo Marini, moderated by artist and curator Marisa Caichiolo, exploring the ideas behind the installation and Marini’s artistic practice at the intersection of art, visual language and communication.
