The Getty Villa is modeled on the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy, which was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
This exhibition presents rare original artifacts and traces attempts to unroll and decipher the carbonized papyri found during the latest excavations.
On June 27, Francesco Sirano, Director of Herculaneum Archaeological Site, will hold a special presentation on the Villa dei Papiri and the exceptionally preserved city of Herculaneum.
Free, advance ticket required.
