“Eddy” by Simone Borrelli
European award winning short and feature films and box office successes come to the American Cinemathèque for the second edition of a EU Film Festival in Los Angeles featuring the best of contemporary Old World cinema. The IIC presents Eddy (2014, 30 minutes) written and directed by and starring Simone Borrelli. Rodrigo, a young Italian surgeon who is about to become a father for the first time, leaves Italy to volunteer at a field hospital in Syria, where he finds himself saving primarily children, the primary victims of “the green parrots”, little landmines disguised as parrot-shaped toys. Selected as the “Official Human Rights Movie 2015” by the Council of Europe and receiver of the official high patronage from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic for its high social, cultural and artistic significance, the film is also supported by Unicef, Doctors Without Borders, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and Amnesty International.Nominated for best film and best actor at 2015 Social World Film Festival in Naples and selected by the 2015 Festival del film Locarno.The screening of Eddy on the occasion of the opening night of Starring Europe is organized by the IIC and the Department of Italian at UCLA, in collaboration with Amnesty International, Hollywood Reporter and RAI International.Eddy is screening on September 24 at the Egyptian Theatre.Info and tickets at www.americancinematheque.com
