Rossini Summer Opera Series: Ciro in Babilonia

Ciro in Babilonia (Cyrus in Babylon, 2012, 165 min) is the second opera of this special screening series dedicated to Gioachino Rossini thanks to a special collaboration between the IIC and the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro, Italy.

The Biblical story of Belshazzar’s hubristic arrogance, set against the valor of the young Cyrus, provided the 20-year-old Rossini with Ciro in Babilonia, a dramatic story enriched by East-West implications which still speak to us today.
