Pininfarina: Art, Culture, Design

Silvio Pietro Angori, CEO and Managing Director of Pininfarina S.p.A., will give a presentation on the iconic Italian brand, which combines art, design, culture and entrepreneurship. Angori will also present the literary magazine L’Indice dei Libri del Mese, for which he serves as Chairman of the Board.

Additional presentations will be held at selected Universities and Design Schools in Southern California.

On this occasion, Silvio Angori will receive the IIC Los Angeles Creativity Award for being an ambassador of Italian culture and excellence in the world. The prize was established by the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles in recognition of Italian excellence in the world in every creative field and it consists in an original work in nylon string and plexiglass by iconic fashion designer Emilio Cavallini, based on a 1980 drawing inspired by the ceiling of the Pantheon in Rome.

 

The event is organized on the occasion of the first Giornate del Contemporaneo – Italian Contemporary Art Days (October 8-13) and as opening the Week of Italian Language in the World (October 15-20) in Los Angeles.

During the event, Riccardo Balbo, Board Member and IED beneficial owner, will present the project Not an Artist: Toyboyz Edition will be presented, organized by the Institute and IED. Curated by Igor Zanti and Jacopo Manganiello, the exhibit depicts Toy Design through the work of Fidia Falascchetti, Joe Ledbetter/J.Led, Massimo Giacon and Simone Legno/Tokidoki. The artists will be in attendance.

The exhibit will be on view on October 13 and will close on November 2.

Silvio Angori was awarded a Master’s Degree in Theoretical Physics at La Sapienza University in Rome and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the Booth School of Business – University of Chicago in Illinois (USA).

From 1989 to 1990, he was a researcher at Augusta Westland Helicopters. In 1990 he worked at Centro Ricerche Fiat near Turin, now Fiat Chrysler Automotive as a Senior Researcher.

In 1994, he joined ArvinMeritor Inc. in Detroit (USA) holding various management roles becoming General Manager and CEO of national branches, transnational operating units and global divisions.

In January 2007, he joined Pininfarina as Chief Operating Officer. In 2008, he was coopted as Director in the Board of Directors and he was elected Chief Executive Officer of Pininfarina Group in 2009, position held till today.

During his tenure he has led the relaunch of Pininfarina through a major business turnaround which has positioned the Company to lead the path forward a new world of design.

He is a member of several entrepreneurial associations and theirs statutory boards.

He is a “compulsive reader” of novels, essays, treatises and magazines on various topics, preferring philosophical, natural and physical sciences, design, poetry, and figurative arts themes. This passion has led him to deal with the Indice dei Libri del Mese, the oldest and most prestigious independent magazine of Literature reviews where he serves as Chairman of the Board. He loves Classical and Jazz music, and he is fondly attracted by any form of art, expressions of individual talent.
