Marquee Movies Series: Cinema Paradiso

Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, 1988, 174 min.), presented here in the original director’s cut, casts its enthralling cinematic spell even as it reveals and revels in the mechanics of its making. A paean to falling in love in the dark, as well as the heartbreak of waking up from the dream, Cinema Paradiso may be the ultimate cinephilia nostalgia trip. The Best Foreign language Film winner of the 62nd Academy Awards with a musical score by Ennio Morricone and Andrea Morricone.

In person: Ross Melnick will sign copies of American Showman: Samuel ‘Roxy’ Rothafel and the Birth of the Entertainment Industry, 1908-1935 beginning at 6 p.m.

Curated by Paul Malcolm and Ross Melnick and co-presented by the UCLA Film and Television Archives and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Los Angeles.
