Berlin moviegoers looking for cheap horror thrills get more than they bargained for at the opening of the Metropol, a mysterious movie palace seemingly sprung up overnight, when the supernatural carnage on screen spills out into the audience. Italian giallo masters Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento deliver with Demons (Dèmoni, 1985, 88 min.) on the practical gore, scorching rock soundtrack and tongue-in check heavy meta-commentary. Curated by Paul Malcolm and Ross Melnick and co-presented by the UCLA Film and Television Archives and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Los Angeles.
