The Garden of the Finzi Continis – August 6
The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970) won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film. Directed by the legendary Vittorio De Sica and based on the classic 1962 novel by Giorgio Bassaniis, the film tells the story of the Finzi-Continis, a wealthy Jewish aristocratic family facing rising fascism in 1930s Italy.

Syndrome K – August 13
Syndrome K tells the little-known story of Italian doctors who rescued Jews during the Holocaust by fabricating a highly contagious fake disease. During the Nazi occupation of Rome, three Roman Catholic doctors hid Jews in a Vatican-affiliated hospital by convincing Nazis that the patients had the deadly “Syndrome K.” The documentary features interviews with survivors and their descendants as well as 98-year-old Adriano Ossicini, the last surviving doctor, and Pietro Borromeo, the son of the hospital’s head doctor.

Life is Beautiful – August 20
Life is Beautiful (1997) won Academy Awards for Best Actor (Roberto Benigni), Best Foreign Language Film and Best Music (Original Dramatic Score). Directed, co-written by and starring Roberto Benigni, the film tells the story of a Jewish librarian who uses his humor and imagination to shield his son from the horrors of internment in a Nazi concentration camp.
