A new event promoting Italy as a cinematic set, thanks to the collaboration between Angus Dei Production by Tiziana Rocca, the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles and its Director Valeria Rumori and the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles.
During the first edition of the project the new Italian Cinema Law for foreign producers will also be presented by Florindo Blandolino, Italian Trade Agency Commissioner in Los Angeles (ICE di Los Angeles).
The Consul General of Italy Antonio Verde will open the event, which has received the Consulate’s patronage.
The special guests in attendance will include representative of the City of Los Angeles and the director Oliver Stone, a strong proponent of Italy, which has been an inspiration for his films. In a presentation curated by Variety, Stone, with the Italian producer Claire M. Stein, will introduce the U.S. premiere of the documentary Ukraine on Fire by Igor Lopatonok (2016) which they produced.
Oliver Stone will receive the “Baume & Mercier Special Filming on Italy Award”.
Representing Italy the actor, director and producer Riccardo Scamarcio will present the film Pericle il nero (Pericle, 2016, 104’) in which he stars. The film is directed by Stefano Mordini and is a US premiere. The emerging director Irene Dionisio’sdocumentary Sponde (Shores, 2015, 60’) will also be screened.
Cecilia Peck will be also in attendance, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of her father Gregory Peck, the unforgettable star of Roman Holiday, a cult movie emblematic of “Filming on Italy”. The trailer Gregory Peck and Italy will be screened.
On the occasion of the first edition of the festival, the Italian Cultural Institute will confer the new IIC Los Angeles Creativity Award to Riccardo Scamarcio, who will appear in the upcoming US action film John Wick: Chapter 2, and Cecilia and Anthony Peck in memory of their father, Gregory Peck, protagonist in the iconic film Roman Holiday. The IIC Los Angeles Creativity Award, recognizes Italian excellence in the world. It consists of an original work created by Emilio Cavallini, noted international artist and designer who was inspired by the Roman Pantheon’s ceiling. The award’s design was specifically created for the Institute in celebration of the First Italian Design Day in the World (March 2, 2017).
The “Filming on Italy Award” will be presented to Jonás Cuarón for his film Desierto and the “Baume & Mercier Special Filming on Italy Award” will be given to Isabelle Huppert, Ellen Pompeo, Jeremy Renner and Nat Wolff.
In addition, the documentary, 60 IERI OGGI DOMANI (60 Yesterday Today Tomorrow, 2016, 59’) by Gioriogio Treves, produced by Jean Vigo and distributed by Istituto Luce Cinecitta’ will be screened. The film is an homage to the most important Italian cinema award, il Premio David di Donatello, as a reflection of Italian society and history of Italian cinema over the past sixty years through the memories and testimonies of Gian Luigi Rondi and other protagonists of the big screen.
The Italian Cultural Institute will inaugurate the exhibit “Grand Tour in Contemporary Italy” curated by Centro Cinema Citta’ di Cesena, including a selection of photographs illustrating the stunning regional Italian cinema sets from the 1940 until today. The exhibit will be open to the public from February 8 through May 26, 2017.
