Make Music Day

Make Music Day is an international free celebration of music held on the same day in more than 750 cities in 120 countries around the world. To celebrate the event, and in conjunction with the 2017 Year of Mexico in Los Angeles, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate General of Mexico will present a special classical concert.

Roberto Cani, Violin I and Concert Master for the LA Opera, will play an Italian repertoire, accompanied by pianist Mitsuko Morikawa.

Gavin Gamboa will present a Mexican and Italian program, paying homage to the musical heritage of both countries.

Organized by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles in collaboration with the Los Angeles Virtuosi.

Roberto Cani is Violin I and Concert Master for the LA Opera, as well as a member of the Los Angeles Virtuosi. A native of Milan, he studied at the Milan Conservatory of Music, the Gnessin Institute of Music in Moscow and the University of Southern California. He has been guest concertmaster for the London Philharmonic and the La Scala Philharmonic. He has performed as a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic, the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan, RAI Symphony (Italy), Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, Orchestra Cantelli, Belgrade Orchestra, Zagreb Orchestra and Missouri Chamber Orchestra.

Mitsuko Morikawa has been an active soloist, accompanist and chamber musician in United States as well as in Asia. She has collaborated with highly acclaimed musicians from a vast array of genres spanning instrumental music, vocal music, musical theater and chamber ensembles. Apart from her accomplishments as a performer, Ms. Morikawa has also distinguished herself as a unique and highly regarded coach/accompanist.

Born in Yucatán Mexico, Gavin Gamboa is a well-known pianist that has achieve his musical career in Los Angeles, California. A graduate from UC Santa Barbara, his music offers an avant-garde style with a mix of contemporary influences from electronic and Tibetan meditation music. His works as a composer run from instrumental chamber music without electronics, pieces for large ensembles, piano, electronic, film scores and performances.
