The first movie of the series is Divorzio all’italiana (Divorce Italian Style, Pietro Germi, 1961, 104 min), the famous comedy directed by Pietro Germi. The film takes place in Sicily and tells the story of Ferdinando Cefalù (Marcello Mastroianni), an impoverished Sicilian nobleman who falls in love with his cousin Angela (Stefania Sandrelli), a much younger and attractive woman than his wife.

The movie won the Academy Award for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay – Written Directly for the Screen, Marcello Mastroianni was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Pietro Germi for Best Director.
