Fare Cinema 2022: Tribute to Vittorio Gassman
The festival dedicates a section to the great protagonist of Italian theatre and cinema
In the fifth edition of Fare Cinema, a special section curated by Fondazione Cinema per Roma is dedicated to Vittorio Gassman, for the centenary of his birth. A tribute to the “mattatore”, central figure of the Italian theater and cinema of the 20th century, through a portrait, professional and personal, from which this vulnerable and reserved man hidden behind the great artistic personality shines through.
A conversation specially created with Alessandro Gassmann, son of Vittorio and in turn protagonist of the Italian scene in recent years, presents the versatile father figure to the audience of the Italiana Vimeo channel.
Alessandro Gassmann’s conversation also introduces the screening (limited to the public connecting abroad on the platform MyMovies) of the documentary Sono Gassman! Vittorio King of Comedy, written and directed by Fabrizio Corallo. The film, winner of a Silver Ribbon and the Flaiano Prize, recalls the intense existence of the great actor and director, reconstructed through interviews with family, colleagues and friends, movie scenes (in particular, from films of the golden years of the “Italian comedy”) and archive theatre performances.
In addition to the period films, many valuable testimonies of fellow collaborators – together with the unpublished contributions of his four children – recreate the extraordinary professionalism and magnetism of Gassman.
