Nuovo Cinema Paradiso
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso

Oscar® Sundays is an ongoing series celebrating films that have been honored at the Academy Awards.  This October, Cinecittà presents a retrospective at the Academy Museum highlighting maestro Ennio Morricone‘s Oscar-nominated and winning scores alongside scores from Oscar-nominated films. Cinema Paradiso, the first of many collaborations between director Giuseppe Tornatore and Morricone,  will be followed by the screening of Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven, Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables and The Hateful Eight by Quentin Tarantino.

In Cinema Paradiso, Salvatore “Toto” Di Vita is the son of a small-town war widow; his friendship with the local projectionist (Philippe Noiret), as well as his love for a banker’s daughter, change the course of his life. The first of 10 films that Ennio Morricone would score for Tornatore, this unforgettable story won the 1990 Foreign Language Film Oscar.
