IT WILL BE A COUNTRY by Nicola Campiotti

How would you explain Italy to a child? This docu-film describes the hopes for the country that will be, while touching on some of the key themes of today’s Italy. Director Nicola Campiotti will be in conversation with Alex Ago, Director of Programming and Special Projects at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.US premiere. The film will be screened at San Pedro Senior High and at UC Santa Barbara on May5; at Chapman University on may 6; in San Juan Capistrano on May 7, and at the IIC on May 8.Screening at the IIC is FOR MEMBERS ONLYWhat to tell children about Italy? And, on the other hand, why were my friends leaving? The idea for the movie was born from these questions. An unplanned and spontaneous journey to undertake with a child, to begin to confront and gather together a handful of themes that formed a sort of album, a compendium of the things I felt are prerequisites for a civilised country: the right to work (ideally not on a short-term contract and risking life and limb), a love for the land, the landscape and the environment that is our home, a sense of the limits that exist, the value of courage and a respect for the rules, an opening up to knowledge and the meeting with different cultures and beliefs, the Constitution, examples of good government… Nicola Campiotti
