Maestro James Conlon Presents Don Carlo

A special event featuring James Conlon, Music Director of LA Opera and newly named Commendatore Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. In advance of the opening of LA Opera’s production of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Don Carlo, the Italian Cultural Institute will host Mr. Conlon’s presentation. In the spirit of his immensely popular pre-performance talks at LA Opera, Mr. Conlon will discuss the historical and musical context in which Giuseppe Verdi composed this masterpiece.

Mr. Conlon will conduct 6 performances of Don Carlo starting September 22 and running through October 14, 2018.

By invitation only. RSVP required.

James Conlon is one of today’s most versatile and respected conductors. He has conducted virtually every major American and European symphony orchestra since his 1974 debut with the New York Philharmonic, has led more than 270 performances at the Metropolitan Opera, and has conducted at the leading opera houses of Milan, Vienna, St. Petersburg, London, Rome, and Florence. Through worldwide touring, an extensive discography and videography, numerous writings, television appearances and guest speaking engagements, Conlon has become one of classical music’s most recognized figures. He is Music Director of LA Opera (where he leads Verdi’s Don Carlo, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and Verdi’s La Traviata in the 2018-19 season), and Principal Conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Torino, Italy. He is also a noted advocate for composers suppressed by the Nazi regime. Among his numerous prizes are four Grammy® Awards for recordings with LA Opera, a 2002 Légion d’Honneur from then-President of the French Republic Jacques Chirac, and a 2018 Commendatore Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana from Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic.
