language > K-12 Italian Language Video Contest 2022

In honor of the 22nd annual Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo (Week of the Italian Language in the World), Fondazione Italia, in collaboration with the Consulates General of Italy in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the Italian Cultural Institutes of Los Angeles and San Francisco, invites K-12 students to participate in a video contest that will showcase their creativity and connection to the Italian language.

Please note! This contest is only open to K-12 students living in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Hawaii.

CONTEST OVERVIEW

L’italiano e i giovani. Come Scusa? Non ti followo is the theme for the 22nd annual Week of the Italian Language in the World (October 17 – 22, 2022). Students in grades K-12 are asked to create a short “TikTok” style video in Italian that uses an English word that has been “Italianized” and is being used by today’s youth (“giovani”). For example, a text “chat” has created the new slang verb “chattare” in Italian so a student may film themselves having a conversation in which they use the verb “chattare.” Students can also consider get creative and have fun with their videos!

CONTEST REQUIREMENTS

  • Participating student must be enrolled in K-12
  • In the video participants must be speaking in Italian
  • The video cannot be more than one-minute long

AWARDS

One winner will be chosen from the Los Angeles Consulate’s jurisdiction, and a second winner will be chosen from the San Francisco Consulate’s jurisdiction for a total of TWO winners. The two winning videos will be announced and shared across the consular networks and the winners will be invited to their respective Consulate’s to meet their Italian Consul General and receive their award certificate.
