film festival > Fare Cinema 2022: Italian Renaissance

Fare Cinema 2022: Italian Renaissance offers a window on contemporary Italian cinema.

Fare Cinema 2022 dedicates the section titled Italian Renaissance to some of the most significant protagonists of the new important season of Italian cinema, the subject of a renewed and growing attention by specialized critics and international festivals.

To the public following the exhibition from abroad, five short films by five well-known and emerging Italian directors are available for one week on the MyMovies platform: a selection of titles that offers a fresh and transversal outlook on contemporary reality, telling stories all very different from each other. Thanks to the great variety of styles and themes, these works create a colorful and complex image of the world in which we live, using original and innovative cinematic language, even when reworking techniques and models of the past.

Gabriele Mainetti, risen to prominence with the great success of his debut film Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot and with the subsequent Freaks Out, participates in Fare Cinema with his sixth short-film, Tiger Boy. Sydney Sibilia, author of the successful trilogy Smetto quando voglio, intervenes instead with his Oggi gira così.

Followed by two original animated shorts: Sugarlove by Laura Luchetti, winner of the Silver Short Film in 2019 as best short film for animation, and Esca Viva by Susanna Nicchiarelli, winning director of the “Nastro dell’Anno” 2021 with her Miss Marx.

The session also includes Il mio dovere di sposa, one of the nine short stories that make up the collective work 9×10 Novanta, produced in 2014 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Istituto Luce. The author is Claudio Giovannesi, a well-known artist on the national and international scene, winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the Berlin Film Festival 2019 with La paranza dei bambini.

Curated by Fondazione Cinema per Roma, each of the five directors also participates with an in-depth video interview conducted by Mario Sesti. An introduction to the series is a conversation with Pappi Corsicato, based on his appreciated thirty-year experience. The interviews will remain freely accessible without a time limit on the Italiana channel Vimeo.
