Audivisual “performance” by journalist and a writer Federico Rampini who will present his latest book Red lines: Men, borders, empires: geographical maps that recount our world published by MONDADORI in 2017 with lights, sounds and projections of special maps that will help us understand the (crazy) world we live in.
We travel more. We understand less. As we speed across it, the world confuses us. Leaders grope in the dark. They create “red lines” that they do not understand. Perhaps because they do not read. What the world wants to tell us is explained in geographic maps, and in their history. But the maps studied at school are not enough. It is necessary to penetrate their hidden meaning, to cross the terrestrial landscape with the stories of civilizations, peoples and empires.

Since 2009 Federico Rampini has been based in New York as the US Bureau Chief of la Repubblica, the leading national newspaper in Italy. Previously, he served as a columnist and correspondent for la Repubblica in Beijing, where he inaugurated the newspaper’s China bureau in July 2004. He covers global summits: G7, G20. From 2000 to 2004, Rampini was la Repubblica’s West Coast correspondent based in San Francisco. From 1997 to 2000, he was the European editor of la Repubblica covering the creation of the euro in Brussels and Frankfurt. He has been a visiting professor at UC Berkeley School of Journalism, at the Shanghai University of Economics and Finance, and currently at the Business School Bocconi in Milano. A prolific author on global economic and political issues, his books have been translated into French, Spanish and Portuguese. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
