{"id":3284,"date":"2023-11-03T15:45:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T22:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iiclosangeles.esteri.it\/news\/dall_istituto\/2023\/11\/concorso-italo-calvino-e-la-sostenibilita\/"},"modified":"2023-11-03T15:56:42","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T22:56:42","slug":"concorso-italo-calvino-e-la-sostenibilita","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iiclosangeles.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_istituto\/2023\/11\/concorso-italo-calvino-e-la-sostenibilita\/","title":{"rendered":"CONTEST: ITALO CALVINO AND SUSTAINABILITY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2023 we celebrate two special concurring events: In October, the 23rd edition of the \u201c<strong>Week of Italian Language in the World<\/strong>\u201d will focus on the theme of \u201c<strong>Italian and Sustainability.<\/strong>\u201d The selected theme aligns with the <strong>UN Agenda 2030<\/strong> for Sustainable Development and the bid for EXPO 2030 Rome (People and territories. Regeneration, inclusion, and innovation). In addition, 2023 also marks the <strong>100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Italian author Italo Calvino<\/strong>. In recognition of Italy\u2019s position at the forefront of environmental issues in the world, we therefore propose a creative contest for K-12 students that combines these two events. Our goal is to promote a culture of sustainability as expressed through the Italian language.<\/p>\n<p>The contest is open to <strong>K-12 students who attend Italian classes in the States of California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Hawaii.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CONTEST<\/strong><br \/>\nSelect one short story or part of a novel by Italo Calvino from the excerpts below and present it to the class. Entry should focus on selected quotations and\/or other passages from Calvino\u2019s works (see <a href=\"https:\/\/iiclosangeles.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Contest-Calvino_sustainability_Schools.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attached document<\/a>). Students can create an original piece summarizing, commenting, or interpreting the \u201cgreen\u201d themes in Calvino\u2019s works.<br \/>\nStudent project should be in one of the following formats:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Comic strip telling a short story with speech bubbles in Italian.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Power point presentation including pictures and text in Italian and, if needed, a narrating voice in Italian.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Short video in the form of a sketch or short scene, with dialogues in Italian to be written and acted out by the students.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Short prose in Italian based on one of Calvino\u2019s stories.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Short poem in Italian based on one of Calvino&#8217;s stories.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Item made of recycled materials accompanied by a selection of keywords or a description in Italian. The artifact may be presented through photographs and\/or video.<br \/>\nStudents from the same class can select different formats for their submissions.
